The history of Bluefield State University

Bluefield State University (BSU) is a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) located in West Virginia that is the whitest of all HBCUs in America. Founded in 1895 as Bluefield Colored Institute, it has since become a symbol of integration and community. BSU is nestled high on the north side of Bluefield smack dab in the "hood" across the tracks, over the bridge "MLK", round the corner from the cops. It's the perfect lookout to forewarn when the "Popo is on patrol." Oh, and BSU is also an accredited Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association member.  With a long history of federal and state grants, BSU had once became a hub for African American education. Most of the diversity remnant of coal miners and rail roaders has since migrated to more developed areas.
